FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Reiki Sessions

What can I expect during a Reiki session?
During a Reiki session, I will hover or place my hands over specific areas of your body (never private areas). It's best if you don't expect to feel anything, and simply remain present and aware of any sensation you feel during the session.

How many Reiki sessions will I need?
The recommended number of sessions varies based on individual needs. Although some people feel benefits after a single session, many find that regular, ongoing sessions provide deeper, cumulative healing effects. For chronic conditions or deep trauma, weekly sessions are recommended.

What should I wear to a Reiki session?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and socks. You will remain fully clothed during the session. You'll be asked to remove your shoes and any restrictive accessories.

What if I fall asleep during a Reiki session?

It's totally ok if you fall asleep during Reiki. Some clients value the awareness and mindfulness that comes with experiencing Reiki consciously. While being asleep may help some people quiet the conscious mind, which can allow the Reiki energy to work more freely without mental blocks or resistance.

General Questions About Reiki

How does Reiki work?
Reiki works by channeling universal life energy through the practitioner's hands to the recipient. This energy can help to balance the body's energy flow, reduce stress, alleviate pain, and support the body's natural healing processes.

Is Reiki scientifically proven?
Reiki practitioners work with the body's biofield to promote balance and healing. While the exact mechanisms remain a subject of ongoing research, studies suggest that Reiki can trigger the relaxation response, reduce pain perception, and improve overall mood by influencing the body's biofield and autonomic nervous system. By integrating this scientific perspective, we can see Reiki not just as a mystical practice, but as a complementary approach that aligns with our growing understanding of the human body's energetic nature.

Is Reiki connected to any religious beliefs?

No, Reiki is not connected to any religious beliefs. It is a spiritual healing practice that operates independently of any specific religion. However, Reiki can be thought of as a form of higher frequency energy or as a connection to a universal life force, which some people may choose to interpret as a divine or spiritual presence.

What is Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki?

Usui Reiki is considered to be the oldest form of Reiki, founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. Holy Fire Reiki is a contemporary form of Reiki introduced by William Lee Rand. Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki integrates the traditional Usui Reiki with techniques called Holy Fire, believed to be highly purifying, healing, and empowering.  This new approach to Reiki emphasizes purification, healing, empowerment, and is also known for its gentle, yet powerful and transformative energy, enhancing the healing experience for both practitioners and recipients.

Distance Reiki

What is Distance Reiki?
Distance Reiki is the practice of sending Reiki energy to a recipient who is not physically present. It leverages the concept that energy is not confined by time or space, allowing healing to occur even when the practitioner and recipient are miles apart. It can also help heal past traumas by focusing on younger parts of you who experienced trauma in the past.

Is distance Reiki as effective as in-person sessions?
Yes, many people find distance Reiki to be just as effective as in-person sessions. The practitioner uses focused intention to channel energy to the recipient, who can experience the same benefits as they would in a face-to-face session. Ultimately, it's a personal preference.

How do I prepare for a distance Reiki session?
Find a quiet, well-lit area, where you won't be disturbed. You will be in the same position during the entire session, so make sure to choose a space that's comfortable, like a bed or a couch. The session will take place over a video call, so make sure you have your laptop charged and plugged in, as the session can last up to an hour. Set an intention for the session and relax, either sitting or lying down. I will guide you through the process remotely.
